Read Across America activities were scheduled for the week of March 13th. The Read Across America activities celebrated the works of Roald Dahl who wrote a plethora of children’s books including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Roald Dahl would have celebrated his hundredth birthday if he was still with us.
A major snowstorm caused us to reschedule some of the activities to the week of March 20th. On Monday we had a kickoff assembly to generate excitement for Read Across America activities. On Thursday, March 16th teachers invited guest readers to their classrooms. Friday’s activity was a Stop Drop and Read day in which students were encouraged to dress in cozy clothes.
On the week of the March 20th we held a Write-a-Thon in the Kiosk as students wrote in Roald Dahl fashion. On Friday, March 24th, Ms. Mulcahy, Mr. Bennett, and Mrs. Wrath re-enacted scenes from some of Roald Dahl’s unforgettable novels. This was a reward as the students met their reading challenge for Read Across America.
